Behold a world filled with the wonderful and the whimsical, where a childlike imagination may fly freely alongside the fey and fairy world of plants, butterflies and bugs!
This is an exhibition that promises a bewitching array of botanical etchings and digital studies of bugs, butterflies and mini-beasts, created by talented Sussex artist, Julia White. Inspired by the Victorian Arthur Rackham, Sussex illustrator of the fantastical and otherworldly, Julia’s images cleverly combine a flavour of the botanical with a light touch of the childlike.
Julia’s work combines gentle flights of fanciful fey with a holistic ethos, as she uses vegetable-based inks as far as possible – thus the natural world is both in the visual and the physical. Her work is hand-inked, and her prints are generally sold as limited editions.
Furthermore, Julia is holding a ‘Meet the Maker’ event on Saturday 22 July, from 2pm to 4pm in the art gallery at the museum. Come along and enjoy a glass of something bubbly whilst chatting to this wonderful artist about how she creates her beautiful prints.
