Adopt an Artefact at Horsham Museum & Art Gallery

You can now help Horsham Museum & Art Gallery to care for its unique collection by adopting one of our artefacts for a year - for yourself, or as an unusual gift. This scheme is run in partnership with the Friends of Horsham Museum & Art Gallery.Horshamosaurus Bones

There are thirty artefacts available to adopt, chosen from across all the museum's collections and currently on display.  The adoption list can be found here.

The money raised through this scheme helps finance crucial projects within the museum, such as the conservation of our collection, as well as enabling new projects to be undertaken for the benefit of our community and for the purchase of important objects.

Adoption Fees

  • Standard rate, adult - £25
  • Standard rate, child (under 16 years) - £10

Payment can be made by BACS, Debit or Credit cards, cheques or cash.  

Please note that during the museum's closure due to the Covid-19 outbreak, this scheme will be temporarily be suspended but will resume when the museum reopens.

  • The adoption of an artefact with an adoption certificate
  • Regular e-newsletters from the museum
  • Your name on the artefact's label for a whole year (unless you choose to remain anonymous).

You can adopt an artefact for someone else - just give us their name and details on the application form so that we can prepare their adoption certificate.

Each artefact may be adopted by up to five individuals.

Objects that are not on display are not eligible for adoption.

The Friends /Museum may alter the adoption lists at any time. (If artefacts are removed from the list existing adopters may still be able to renew their adoption if they wish, depending on the reason for removal).

Adopting an artefact will not give you any rights over the artefact itself or images of it.

Occasionally the museum may, for essential operational, health and safety or conservational reasons, need to remove an adopted artefact from display either temporarily or permanently.  In the case of temporary removal, adopters will be notified.  You should always call us, just in case, if you are travelling specifically to see the artefact.

Adoption is for one year.  Existing adopters will be invited to renew their adoption before the end of the twelve month period.
